Machshava Technologies has completed a
nationwide computerization project for Baran
Raviv, the company implementing the deployment
and maintenance of systems for satellite
broadcast company YES. This Internet based
system, for managing the command and control
system for satellite broadcast infrastructure,
is the first of its kind in Israel to use
WAP technology.
Mobile phones with Internet access where
handed to several contractors, installation
engineers and technicians who are involved
in the YES installation and servicing process.
Installation orders, service calls and malfunction
details are transmitted directly from the
secure Internet site of Baran Raviv to people
in the field through the telephone. Information
about the activities and location of technicians
is transmitted in real-time from these terminals
to the server, and is translated into complementary
instructions and changes to the work schedule,
which are in turn also sent via the mobile
Internet.
Service contractors can connect to the
company's information system and obtain
further details about customer location,
previous problems at the site and relevant
solutions.
"In our view this is a pioneering
technological achievement", says Shlomo
Waldmann, chairman of Machshava Technologies,
responsible for developing the project.
"Everyone is talking about WAP and
the mobile Internet, but we have proven
that mobile Internet surfing can be used
not just for finding out weather information,
but also to manage the deployment of a nationwide
servicing system We have built a system
that is 100% Internet in all its elements:
Customer requests, tracking of employees,
dish deployment and management of work orders.
When we got to the point where we had to
communicate with technicians and service
representatives in the field, WAP was naturally
a complementary technology".
Machshava Technologies develops information
systems for public organizations, private
companies and software companies. Amongst
the company's customers are such companies
as Amdocs, Partner, Orckit and the three
major banks in Israel. Over the last year
the company has focused on implementing
traditional information system technologies
over Internet and intra-net platforms.
"We had worries about the lack of
experience in operating systems of this
type and size in Israel", admits Arie
Weig, one of the project leaders at Machshava.
"We were not sure how the idea would
be received by people in the field. A month
and a half into the pilot phase we have
proven that the mobile phone is not only
an instrument for having conversations but
also an all purpose work tool. The sign
of success, as far as we are concerned,
is the fact that they are not even aware
that they are actually connecting to an
Internet site".
"This system enables us to give a
more efficient, more accurate and faster
service to YES customers", says Eyal
Goldberg, Information Systems Manager at
Baran Raviv. "Now technicians do not
have to wait anymore for the telephone headquarters
or to wait for a fax. Information is readily
available to them at all times and everywhere
and we can direct them during the day. Because
information flows bi-directionally, we are
capable today of giving full information
to customers and solve servicing problems
as soon as they arise."
